Despite efforts from liberals and conservatives to gut the Patriot Act, it looks like it will actually be expanded if the Senate Intelligence Committee has its way. It aims to give the FBI broader powers to subpoena documents from financial institutions, libraries, hospitals, et al without judicial oversight! Worse, the subpoenas can be designated secret and revealing the existence of one can lead to jail time. Also worse, it will be easier for the FBI to monitor someone’s mail during a terror investigation.
I think it goes without saying that Americans have a right to expect to have the details of their financial transactions, health records, the books they read, and the mail they receive private without some serious probable cause of a crime being committed. The arguments have been made a million times already, which makes it all the more shocking that the committee would so audaciously recommend such expanded powers. Even Democrats like Senator John D. Rockefeller IV of West Virginia were no help, supporting the bill in the committee while publicly calling for revisions. The committee, where the GOP is only the majority by 1, voted 11 to 4 in favor of the measure.

Granted I don’t know all the facts about this case yet…and that statement usually discredits my point of view, I will try to use logic to pick apart what I read.
It seems to me that the general point of view of people who are against this, suggests that this is an invasion of privacy, and I agree with that point of view, sort of, not really.
Many times have companies taken advantage of investors by falsifying progress reports and whatever other business beaurocratics exists. This law is merely trying to legitimize crooked businesses and personel from creating false stock spikes and fantasizing consumer interest. In addition to giving the ability of the policing government agencies to stop financial discretions, it hopes to search out possible criminal activities which are documented through certainforms and medias.
While the abuse of this act can create a witch hunt nation wide and partially remove the rights of the American people to freedom of Speach. I doubt with all the beauracracy in todays system, it will ever get to that point. I am not afraid of this act, because I’ve done nothing wrong.

“Granted I don’t know all the facts about this case yet…and that statement usually discredits my point of view, I will try to use logic to pick apart what I read.”
Either this person is making fun of me, or I am far too self-conscious.

I am not making fun of you…Big Ben is one of my on-line and college nicknames. I don’t even know you…but I am willing to guess that you are a little self-conscience.

“I am not afraid of this act, because I’ve done nothing wrong.”
My friend used to say that kind of stuff after we finished reading books like 1984 in high school. I still think it’s better to err on the side of freedom and caution. I’m a “slippery slope” kind of guy. Take a small freedom away and it’s only encouragement to take away bigger freedoms.
I’m pretty sure this stuff is all for personal financial records. As far as corporate accounting goes I think that’s a separate issue, handled (sufficiently or insufficiently is debateable) in other ways, like the Sarbanes-Oxley act. For all its problems, corporate accounting in the U.S. is probably more transparent than anywhere else on Earth, part of why it’s such a great place to invest (disclaimer: I invest in the stock market).

If you read my posts, you would understand… “granted I don’t know all the facts about the case yet” has me written over it. Self-consciousness it is.
Rock.

The problem being that someone else is using my identity even my drivers license is used by them with their photo on it.
The licenseing department tells me that I am not who I am. Because there is use by someone else.
I have gone to the police, legal aid and more over the years.
This has been in access, from an average of 15yrs.
Something has to be done !
